Video call requirements and troubleshooting

The following are some basic guidelines for getting the best quality of video while using the video calling or group video calling feature.

Video call best practices

Set your computer up for success:

  • Use Google Chrome as your web browser
  • Close out Zoom/WebEx/FaceTime and any other video conferencing tools
  • Minimize the number of applications running
  • Minimize the number of browser windows and tabs
  • Position yourself near wifi
  • Check wifi speed by visiting google.com, type in: “speed test”, and click on “run speed test button”, a modal will appear with info on your internet speed
    • recommended: 80+ download, 10+ upload)
  • Restart your computer before the video call or at least once per week

Requirements for using Video calling

Device

  • Any smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop that supports the following requirements.
  • Built in or external web camera.
  • Built in or external microphone.

Operating System

  • Windows 10 or higher
  • macOS 10.10 (Yosemite) or higher

Browser

  • Google Chrome version 63.0.0 or higher
  • Safari version 12.1 higher

Internet

  • Ethernet or Wifi connection
  • LTE or 5G connection (not recommended)
  • Minimum download speed: 2mbps
  • Min upload speed: 2mbps

Troubleshooting Basics

Group Video troubleshooting

As a group video host, if you are experiencing issues:

  1. Click End Call.
  2. Refresh your browser and start a new Group Video call from your Dashboard.

As a Group Video participant, if you start experiencing issues

  1. Turn off your camera by pressing the camera icon.
  2. Refresh the page. You will automatically reconnect you to the same Group Video call.

Check your device’s permissions

If the video screen shows “Waiting” when you try to enter the call, your permissions are likely the problem.

  • If you are using Mahmee from your phone/ mobile device, update your device’s permissions for Android or iPhone to allow Google Chrome access your microphone and camera.
  • If you are using Mahmee from your computer update your internet browser permissions to allow Google Chrome to access your microphone and camera.
