Doula Care in the Third Trimester

What to expect with doula care in the third trimester.

Updated over 4 months ago

The third trimester is here — the final stretch before baby’s big arrival! As your body gets ready for labor and birth, it’s normal to feel a mix of excitement, questions, and nerves. Your Mahmee doula is here to help you feel informed, confident, and supported every step of the way. 💛

Whether it’s your first or your fifth, you don’t have to figure it all out alone.

What is Doula Support Like in the Third Trimester?

In your third trimester (weeks 27–40), your Mahmee doula will guide you through:

  • Education-Focused Appointments: Learn about the stages of labor, build your birth plan, and discuss ways to advocate for yourself and your preferences during delivery. These sessions can be done virtually or in-person.

  • Skills-Focused Appointment: Your doula will walk you through breathing techniques, labor positions, and comfort tools to help you prepare physically and mentally for birth. These appointments are in person to allow hands-on practice.

Topics We Cover

In your education appointment, we’ll explore:

  • Creating your personalized birth plan

  • The stages and phases of labor and when to call your doula

  • Labor / pushing positioning strategies

  • Partner support tips and shared decision-making

  • Postpartum planning and what comes after birth

Skills You'll Practice

During your in-person session, you may work on:

  • Labor positions for comfort and progress

  • Breathing and relaxation techniques

  • Timing contractions and knowing when to go to the hospital

  • Roleplaying birth preferences and advocacy language

  • Aromatherapy and stress relief tools

What’s Included – Third Trimester

You’ll also get access to helpful resources like:

  • A birth plan template and hospital bag checklist

  • Labor comfort tools like breathing guides and position charts

  • Advocacy and partner prep tips

  • A preview of what’s coming in your postpartum journey

Ready to Book?

If you’re in your third trimester, we recommend booking:

  • Two education-based appointments (virtual or in-person)

  • One in-person skills appointment

After your baby arrives, your doula continues to support you during your postpartum recovery. We'll guide you through infant care, feeding, and your own physical and emotional healing. Your support doesn't end at birth—we're with you during the “fourth trimester” too.
