Lactation consultations offer personalized support for you and your baby—whether you’re just getting started, troubleshooting challenges, or preparing for the next stage of your feeding journey. At Mahmee, all our lactation consultants are IBCLCs (International Board Certified Lactation Consultants), trained to provide expert, compassionate care.
👩⚕️ What Happens During a Lactation Appointment
Here’s what you can expect during your visit:
Comprehensive assessment: Your IBCLC will assess your baby’s feeding behavior, and (with your permission) may examine your breasts or nipples if there are concerns about pain, latch, or milk transfer.
Feeding observation: Your provider will observe a full feeding to evaluate latching and positioning. They will ensure you are comfortable and offer hands-on support to guide improvements.
Pre- and post-feed weight check: For in-person visits, we’ll weigh your baby before and after feeding using a highly sensitive scale (accurate to 1/10th of an ounce) to measure milk intake during the session.
Personalized care plan: You’ll leave with a care plan that supports your feeding goals—whether you’re breastfeeding, pumping, combo feeding, or using formula.
Ongoing support: After your appointment, your care doesn’t end. You’ll continue to receive support and messaging from our Mahmee team.
Every feeding journey is unique. A lactation consult gives you access to expert, judgment-free guidance tailored to your body, your baby, and your goals. Whether you're nursing, pumping, combo feeding, or transitioning to formula, Mahmee’s IBCLCs are here to help you feel informed, supported, and empowered—at every stage.
